Russell turned eighteen the day before their division left for Europe. He’s from Casper, Wyoming, where most jobs are related to the rich oil fields. His family benefitted in other ways with careers that supported the oil industry.
The two passions in his life, writing and reading, led him to join the local paper as a “cub” reporter. As the youngest reporter, he often found himself tracking down lousy assignments like “Why did the local shop paint its outside walls” and “How do oil men clean their hands at the end of the day.”
His dream is to one day write a novel about the hardships families face living in an oil town.
Russell had the pleasure of writing news stories like this example.
