Behavior Report 1
This is the exciting first chapter of For Loved Ones Left Behind, an online exclusive serial World War 2 historical fiction novel. The term “Behavior Report” was slang used by American soldiers to describe the letters they wrote back to their families. This first behavior report introduces Frank Kaplan as his platoon arrives on the shores of France and awaits orders.
Behavior Report 2
The platoon receives their orders and immediately gather supplies for the mission. Frank’s squad is confused by the amount of ammunition and food rations they are given. Worry fills Frank as they begin their march toward their destination.
Behavior Report 3
The platoon is ambushed along the shore by German machine gunners. Lieutenant Talbott directs Frank’s squad to break up and flank the machine gunners. They find a trench within the tall grasses and hunt down the enemy. Frank shows some mercy to one of the fallen Germans.
Behavior Report 4
Frank shares a story about the origin of their letters for loved ones left behind. The squad works together to find the others who fell in battle with the Germans while Quinten rushes back to get support.
Behavior Report 5
Lieutenant Talbott leads the remaining men to the forest after the disastrous ambush along the shoreline. Frank finds himself on edge, worried about every shadow and movement. The squad finds a spot for the night and Frank uses his insomnia to learn more about some of his squad mates.
Behavior Report 6
The men wake up and begin the final leg of their mission to reach the village. Along the way, they come upon evidence of an atrocity that looks to have happened some time in the recent past. They push on and arrive at the village where they plan out how to enter.

The squad gather inside the village after Lieutenant Talbott initially finds no signs of life. They split up and search the various buildings for anything that will let them know what happened to the villagers. Frank and Earl inspect a church in the center of the village.
